Changing lives through roofing

Changing lives through roofing

Contractors work together to help community members in need.

For some, the thought of buying or repairing a roof is a significant burden. Prices can be high depending on how much damage is incurred, and over time, the struggle becomes larger as the roof deteriorates. These three roofing companies took it upon themselves to help these deserving members of their respective communities who needed new roofs and didn’t have the means to replace them.

1 - Neighborhood Roofing and Virginia Kennedy

Virginia Kennedy’s roof needed replacement. After her husband, the late U.S. Navy veteran, Darwin Kennedy passed away, her roof was the last thing on her mind. “She had gotten a letter from her insurance company that stated they were going to drop her because her roof was too old, so luckily we were able to fill out the paperwork that was necessary and partner with Owens Corning,” Wendy Knox, the executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Lenawee County told 13 WTVG

On a bright and sunny Tuesday, Neighborhood Roofing traveled to Adrian, Michigan to visit Virginia Kennedy and replaced her roof for free. In partnership with Owens Corning, all the roofing materials were provided for Virginia free of charge. The Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project has provided over 500 veterans with roofs since 2016.

2 - SOS Roofing and Quincy Parsons

In Georgetown County, South Carolina, SOS Roofing stepped up to help veteran Quincy Parsons. He had served for 23 years, and his roof was in bad shape. His roof was lined with tarps as a solution to his roofing problem. Inside the house, he would use pots and pans to catch the leakage.

GAF Roofing, Atlantic Roofing Supply and Winyah Lumber all donated roofing materials to the cause. SOS Roofing provided all the labor and used the donated materials to replace Quincy’s roof. Melinda Parsons, Quincy’s wife, explained to WDTV, “We couldn’t ask for anything better from the guys doing this for us, they donated everything.”

3 – Schoenherr Roofing and Michael Johnson

U.S. Air Force veteran, Michael Johnson, had owned his home in Michigan for over 30 years and was in need of a new roof. Regarding his roof, Michael told FOX 2 Detroit, “I recognized that the problem was pretty much getting worse as time went on and was causing us a lot of consternation and distress."

A team from Schoenherr Roofing came out to fix his roof with the help and support of Owens Corning. Schoenherr had a lot of work to do because Michael’s roof had no ventilation and the wood was rotting. Rob Minielly from Owens Corning shared, "We're huge about giving back to the community - especially veterans so it’s a great day to give Mike a new roof."
