Many building owners choose to install a seamless, waterproof membrane rather than doing an entire reroof. By doing this, they not only get a more sustainable option, but also a more economical and less disruptive one. This is a good way to give a roof more years of durability and performance. However, like with any roof substrate, these coating systems can be vulnerable to constant wear and tear that comes with heavy foot traffic. This type of use can negatively affect the performance of the roof and even create safety hazards. In response to this issue, Progressive Materials (PM) has developed to make these roofs more durable and safer for workers.
The PM PG 700/750 system is comprised of two parts. The first part is Pro-Grip 700 Walkway Coating, which comes in a five-gallon bucket. PG-700 utilizes PM’s high-build silicone formula and is a bright, safety yellow color. That yellow color helps promote safety by clearly marking the safest and most efficient flow of foot traffic.
The second part of the system is Pro-Grip 750 Walkway Granules. The granules are an integral part of the mixture because they offer a rigid, non-slip surface to ensure the safety of those on the roof. Many roofs can become slick when wet, and the Pro-Grip Walkway System’s non-slip surface adds another layer of protection. As a bonus, the granules and coating combined enhance the UV resistance of your roof!
The first benefit to the PM Silicone walkway system is safety. In recent years, rooftop accidents and even deaths have risen at an alarming rate. We recognized these dangers and created a simple yet effective non-slip solution. Our PG-700/750 walkway system is a natural extension of our existing silicone roof coatings and provides a slip-resistant walkway for building staff and work crews.
The second benefit to the PM Silicone walkway system is abrasion resistance. Any roof will see more damage where there is more foot traffic. PG-700 is a more durable silicone and can absorb more friction than a typical silicone topcoat. The walkway path holds up even longer when you add the non-slip granules to the equation. When combined, the two products offer a safe, durable coating made to last decades.
The final benefit of the PG-700/750 system is that it is easy to install. Simply roll-apply PG-700 Walkway Coating over the desired walkway area. Next, generously apply PG-750 Walkway Granules within a few minutes of coating application (if doing two coats, apply after the second coat). After the granules are applied, inspect the walkway surface and re-apply as needed to obtain a continuous film of granules. Every area of coating should be completely covered in granules. Once coated and covered in granules, you will have a safe, abrasion resistant walkway for years. You can see exactly what this looks like here.
