RoofersCoffeeShop® crew member Megan Ellsworth spoke to Jeff Hung of Geocel while at the 2024 International Roofing Expo (IRE). Jeff is Geocel’s national sales manager and has worked with them for over six years now. He highlighted a bit of Geocel’s history in light of their 50-year anniversary, “Geocel was founded in 1974 in Elkhart, Indiana. In the early years, they came out with sealants and products predominantly for the RV industry.” This was the beginning of their reputation as a quality brand that helps professionals save time, lower costs and reduce callbacks.
A hallmark moment for the brand was when they became first U.S.-based sealant manufacturer to receive ISO 9001 Registration. From there, they have just continued to grow. Today, they still produce in Elkhart, but have expanded their product offerings. Jeff elaborated, “We now have different technologies, from polyurethane, solvent-based, hybrid technology for your gutters and up.”
One such product is the Geocel 4500® Roof Bonding Sealant. This is a one-component, premium bonding sealant designed to be used asphalt shingles, concrete, EPDM, primed TPO, primed PVC, Hypalon (black only), metal, wood and other common roofing materials. Jeff highlighted the adaptability of this product with a water demo. He explained, “This product can be applied and will adhere and cure underwater. It's a hybrid product, so it’s moisture cured, so it actually likes water, and when it actually dries out, it will not crash, it will stay rubbery.” Further, this product simplifies your application process by combining two products, lap adhesive and scrim edge sealant, into one!
