The 2020 IIBEC International Convention and Trade Show will be six full days of networking, product demonstrations, events, and learning. The International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) is hosting this premier event from March 26-31, 2020 in Houston, Texas at the Marriott Marquis Houston and George R. Brown Convention Center. With more than 140 exhibitors, over 25 hours of educational seminars, and live product demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday, you won’t want to miss this
To help you plan your time at the convention and trade show, IIBEC has its own convention app. Download the app now and start planning your days to ensure you maximize your visit. The app features an interactive floor map where you can browse through the list of exhibitors and even add an exhibitor to your favorites. Take notes on your phone or tablet and email them to yourself when you’re done so you don’t forget the important things you discussed with a vendor or learned in an educational session.
There are plenty of opportunities to network with other building envelope consultants, contractors, manufacturers, and facility managers throughout this event. The IIBEC opening reception kicks off the convention. It’s also an opportunity for attendees who are new to IIBEC or the convention to meet with some long-time members and members of the IIBEC Board of Directors. On Friday, get outside, make a new friend, develop a new lead, and have fun with the golf tournament. The RCI-IIBEC Foundations’ reception and event is a fun-filled evening of live and silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, and door prizes as money is raised for the United States and Canadian RCI-IIBEC Foundations. To close out the convention and trade show, the president's reception and annual banquet serves as the final event, complete with a delicious meal and lively entertainment.
A.B. Stoddard, Associate Editor and Columnist for RealClearPolitics, will be the keynote speaker for the convention and trade show. RealClearPolitics is a political news site and polling data aggregator. A.B. Stoddard always wanted to be a reporter and watching Justice Clarence Thomas’s Supreme Court nomination hearings confirmed her passion for politics. Starting as a reporter for the Potomac News, she then began reporting at The Hill and has covered the United States Congress since 1994. Now she is a contributor and guest host for SiriusXM’s POTUS Channel and has appeared on Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, CNN, and MSNBC because of her expertise as a political commentator. Offering detailed and smart political and electoral analyses, A.B. Stoddard covers big news stories, ongoing budget battles, electoral prospects for the Democratic and Republican parties, in addition to the latest happenings between the White House and Congress.
Throughout the rest of the convention and trade show there will be more than 25 hours of educational sessions on topics relating to the latest building envelope design, repair, and maintenance technologies and techniques.
Cotney Construction Law will present “Legal Issues and Potential Pitfalls that Confront Building Enclosure Consultants, Architects, Engineers, and Contractors” on March 27, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will address warranties, wage and hour compliance, best practices for hiring and firing, contract formation, and critical contract provisions.
“Performance Analysis of Aged TPO Membranes” will be presented by Jennifer Keegan from GAF. Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roof membranes have been tested and improved throughout the years since its inception. Currently there are TPO roofs that have been in service for almost 20 years. Jennifer Keegan will review the long-term performance of a sampling of field-aged TPO roof membranes that were installed throughout the county.
Also from GAF, Joan P. Crowe and James R. Kirby will share about “Simplifying the Complicated Process of Wind Design for Roof Systems.” With the latest version of ASCE 7, wind design for roof systems has been further complicated. The presenters will discuss the similarities and differences between the three versions of ASCE 7 that are used in different parts of the country.
A panel of women will talk about “Retaining Talent Through Coaching and Mentoring.” Jennifer Keegan from GAF, Jennifer Stone with Johns Manville, and Ellen Thorp from National Women in Roofing (NWIR) will explain the importance of developing an inclusive company culture to reduce employee turnover. They will share how supporting female employees, whether they’re on the rooftop or in the office, and creating a collaborative culture are key elements to help with employee retention.
