Experts reveal how proactive inspections and cutting-edge technology are transforming roof deficiency detection, saving time and money.

Roof deficiencies can be a major, costly issue for contractors and building owners alike. In this Read, Listen, Watch® (RLW), industry leaders discussed how proactive inspections and technology are transforming the landscape of roof deficiency detection. This discussion, hosted by Karen Edwards, brought together experts from Greenwood Industries, Best Roofing and Jobba Trade Technologies. They explored best practices for identifying, documenting and addressing roofing issues before they escalate.

“Installation errors, you could come across from basically the first 24 months of the roof's life cycle,” explained Joe Jolicoeur of Greenwood Building Envelope Services. He noted that proactive inspections, rather than reactive repairs, can save clients significant costs by detecting these issues early. Environmental factors, such as wind and rain damage, add further challenges, but technology enables contractors to provide clients with comprehensive documentation of roof conditions and maintenance needs. "Routinely take preventative measures to find these types of damages, errors, punctures, rips and tears, you name it,” Joe said, stressing the importance of early intervention to minimize damage.

Jordan Litt from Best Roofing echoed Joe’s sentiments, stating that technology, particularly Jobba Trade’s FCS software, provides a competitive edge. “Utilizing this product is a great way to be able to show even a roof layman what wasn't done correctly without them actually having to get up on the roof,” Jordan said. Through detailed images and reports, contractors can convey both minor and severe deficiencies, underscoring the urgency of repairs. This transparency not only builds trust but also streamlines the transition from service maintenance to full-scale roof replacements.

Zach Carpenter of Jobba Trade Technologies highlighted the advantages of digitization, which moves contractors away from traditional paper-based processes to a more efficient, cloud-based system. “You’re providing them with a resource. You’re providing them with the documentation that they want, that they’ve paid you to do to essentially give them proof that you are the go-to person for their roof,” Zach explained. This approach allows clients to access a comprehensive history of their roof’s maintenance and repairs, fostering transparency and building trust, while ensuring consistency across pricing, reporting and service records critical for long-term relationships.
