In communities across Michigan, roofers are stepping up to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most, showing the power of generosity and compassion. From helping veterans to families living in historic homes, roofing professionals are donating their time, labor and materials to help individuals who face financial struggles. These acts of kindness not only provide physical shelter but also offer peace of mind, knowing that their homes are safe and secure. Whether through programs like the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Program or local initiatives like Guns N Hoses Roofing, these selfless contributions highlight the strong sense of community that exists in cities where residents and businesses come together to help one another.
In a generous show of support for local veterans, Navy veteran Javion Hollins and former Detroit police officer Derrick Cannon have both received new roofs for their Southfield homes, courtesy of Schoenherr Roofing and the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Program.
Hollins, a U.S. Navy veteran, and Cannon, who also served in the U.S. Army and worked as a Detroit police officer, were both facing roof issues in their homes. The teams from Schoenherr Roofing donated their time and labor to install the new roofs, while the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Program contributed the high-quality materials necessary for the project.
The Roof Deployment Program is a national initiative aimed at giving back to veterans by providing them with new roofs at no cost. Partnering with contractors like Schoenherr Roofing, the program helps veterans who may be struggling with home repairs by offering both the materials and the skilled labor required for the job.
Both Hollins and Cannon are now able to enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a new, durable roof, and these donations serve as a reminder of the community’s appreciation for their service and sacrifice.
Emily Ferrel and her family from Flushing, Michigan, are breathing a sigh of relief this winter after receiving a brand-new roof for their 132-year-old house. The home, located in Genesee County, had been in dire need of repairs for some time, with the roof showing signs of age and causing leaks. Fortunately, a generous gesture from Guns N Hoses Roofing provided the solution.
Guns NHoses Roofing, based in Flushing, donated both their time and labor to install the new roof, making this winter a little warmer for the Ferrel family. "We have a 132-year-old house, and we knew we needed all these repairs done, but it was going to cost a lot of money," Emily Ferell told WNEM TV5. "We’re at the point now where we do have leaking upstairs, and so for safety and everything, it’s just an unreal blessing for our family."
Older homes like the Ferrel's often face multiple issues with their roofs due to the wear and tear of time. Leaks and other damage can be serious problems, especially in homes that are historically significant to the community. In Flushing, many older homes are cherished and recognized for their historical value, making the roof donation even more meaningful.
The Ferrel family was selected for the free roof through a lottery process organized by Guns NHoses Roofing. The program offers a helping hand to families in need, and the timing couldn’t have been better for the Ferrel family.
This donation not only ensures the Ferrel family has a safe and dry home but also serves as a reminder of the strong sense of community in Flushing, where residents look out for one another, especially during difficult times.
