Get a new, fantastic point of view on the coatings industry and the opportunities it offers contractors.

The coatings industry offers a great opportunity for contractors to expand their offerings and grow their businesses. In a new Read Listen Watch® (RLW), Heidi J. Ellsworth spoke to Nick Doran and Luis Ramos of MuleHide about the opportunity coatings offers contractors. From lowered liability to energy efficiency, this duo will open your eyes and show you the power of the world of coatings!

Nick, who has been a territory manager for MuleHide for over six years, shared a bit about what makes coatings such a great opportunity for contractors, saying, “Oftentimes with existing buildings, we're looking at roof restoration. By keeping all items intact and applying a monolithic system of fluid applied product, we can restore the life of that existing roof there.” Luis, another MuleHide territory manager with over three decades of roofing industry experience, explained why restoring an existing roof is a better option, saying, “Not having any tear-offs really speaks of significant cost savings to the client. Additionally, to the contractor, because there aren't any dumpster fees, there aren't any risks and exposing what's inside the building to anything being done on the roof... On average the cost of a tear off is about twice the cost of coating a roof system.”

Additionally, coatings are popular with building owners because it minimizes their liability, requires minimal maintenance after installation and doesn’t disrupt day-to-day operations within the building. Coatings can also make a roof more energy efficient. Nick shared, “Oftentimes these coatings are put down in a color of white, which give them reflectivity and the ability to cool, actually cool the surface that's being applied to so that it is more energy efficient.” This can actually save the building owner even more money, as it lowers the cost of air conditioning in the building.
