Five ways to use AI to improve your and your team’s communication and productivity. 

Are you confused about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and what it means for the future of work? You're not alone. There's a lot of misinformation and fear surrounding this topic. But did you know that you've already been using AI in your everyday work? That's right, every time you use the paper clip icon on Windows or formulas on Excel, you're interacting with a form of AI. 

Today's AI, known as "Generative AI" or Gen AI for short, is what people are referring to when they talk about popular programs like ChatGPT, Midjourney or Firefly. These programs generate new content by pulling information from previously created articles, art and other data. This process is triggered by humans, whether it's through a written prompt or a question. 

While there are still many unknowns surrounding policy, privacy and the future possibilities of machine learning, we can focus on what we can do today with the tools and knowledge that we have at our disposal. Instead of worrying about the Matrix theories of doom and gloom, let's make the best of both Gen AI and the existing skills that you and your teammates possess. 

When it comes to our day-to-day jobs, and our teams’ productivity, how can the use of AI assist in improving efficiencies? 

1. Executing mundane tasks – Executing mundane tasks can leave your team feeling drained and unfulfilled, wondering why they are not using their talents for projects that create a bigger impact. Some tasks such as cleaning up email lists and data sorting can be time-consuming and boring. But what if I told you that AI can do these tasks in a fraction of the time, without complaining or feeling deflated? By delegating these mundane tasks to AI, your team can be more proactive, more creative and more solutions-driven. Let's empower our teams to focus on what they do best and leave the boring stuff to AI. 

2. Creating connections – AI can translate from multiple languages in real time. This technology has the potential to revolutionize team productivity. The ability to reduce misunderstandings, increase team alignment and create opportunities for collaboration between team members who may have not been able to communicate effectively before is invaluable. It is important to keep in mind that humans have a set of key responsibilities when it comes to working with AI, as an article in the Harvard business Review explains; it is our job to train AI to deliver what we are looking for, to explain the outcomes of those tasks and report on results, and lastly to sustain AI by preventing issues from arising in relation to safety, privacy and policies in order to protect employees and the workplace. These responsibilies serve as a constant reminder that AI may be here to stay, but so are you and your teammates.
