Cold weather roofing reinvented

Certainteed Cold weather roofing reinvented
November 26, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

Stay ahead of winter’s chill with a cold weather roofing solution that keeps projects moving, even in freezing temperatures.

For contractors battling winter’s chill, CertainTeed has introduced a groundbreaking solution with its Arctic Edge™ Cold Lap Tape. This innovative auxiliary tape enables the application of Flintlastic® SA self-adhered roofing membranes in temperatures as low as 35°F (2°C), allowing roofing projects to continue even in cold weather without compromising on performance.

Roofing beyond 50°F: No more delays

Roofing during colder months can be challenging, often forcing crews to delay projects due to suboptimal temperatures. Arctic Edge™ addresses this issue head-on, delivering superior adhesion that withstands cold environments. With this tape, roofing professionals can begin their projects early in the day when temperatures are at their lowest, eliminating delays while ensuring the bond quality of Flintlastic® SA membranes remain strong. Once ambient temperatures reach 50°F (10°C), the tape is no longer necessary, allowing contractors to save it for future use.

Arctic Edge™ is applied to critical areas like perimeter edges, side laps and base/interply end laps, replacing FlintPrime® Aerosol primer for metal detailing in colder weather. This not only speeds up the process but also enhances the overall efficiency of roofing crews. According to CertainTeed, you can kick off the day with Arctic Edge™ and stop as temperatures rise, without waiting for primers to dry.

Maximized coverage and performance

Each roll of Arctic Edge™ covers 260 feet and is 4 inches wide, making it versatile enough to work with up to four rolls of Flintlastic® SA PlyBase or eight rolls of MidPly. The pressure-sensitive acrylate tape, reinforced with a polyester scrim, forms a tenacious bond in cold conditions, ensuring long-term adhesion and waterproofing.

Arctic Edge™ integrates seamlessly with the CertainTeed warranty system. When used within the CertainTeed Integrity Roof System, it offers warranty durations between 10 and 25 years, depending on the system’s specifications.

A true cold weather solution

Contractors no longer need to worry about winter slowing down their projects. Arctic Edge™ extends the roofing season, eliminates the need for metal primers in cold conditions and simplifies the application process with its easy-to-use design. For those seeking to keep their crews working in colder climates, Arctic Edge™ Cold Lap Tape is a must-have innovation.
