In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Kristin and Tony Case of Hi-Peak Staffing Solutions stopped by The Coffee Shops™ to talk to Megan Ellsworth about sourcing talent through a specialized recruiting company like theirs. Traditionally, when hiring a new employee, contractors might use word of mouth, classified ads in a newspaper or on a site like LinkedIn. This can be a long and time-consuming process for busy contractors trying to keep up with the day-to-day work of running a company. Kristin illustrated this, saying, “Many companies spend thousands on job boards just to get 60 applicants and maybe zero or one meets the criteria of what they're looking for. So that hiring manager, on top of already what they're doing with their day, is now spending an extra two to ten hours going through applicants that don't match their criteria.”
Where a specialized recruiting agency like Hi-Peak shines is streamlining this process and helping hiring managers avoid the time sink of sifting through unqualified applicants. Kristin explained, “Typically, when we get the call, they've had their jobs posted online for a couple of weeks or months, and they're not getting the candidates that they're looking for. So when we get the call, it's like their expectations are, ‘We need someone yesterday.’ So us being able to take that job order from them and get with our team and provide a candidate within five business days, if not less, is pretty incredible.” And they don’t just provide one candidate, they provide three, allowing you to make the final decision on who fits into your company best.
This might sound too good to be true, but it’s all grounded in years of work Kristin and Tony have done to build up an extensive network. Tony explained, “It's all about the relationships that Kristin and some of our team have built over the past decades... They can text us, they can call us and say, ‘This is what I need,’ and we already understand what the job description looks like, and what level the candidate needs to be able to perform at.” From finding candidates with particular technical backgrounds, with programs like Xactimate or Edge, or experience in different installation types, like TPO, EPDM or PVC, Kristin and Tony know they will have someone in their network that fits the bill.
