In an episode of CoatingsCast™, Jan Bagnall from APOC sat down with Heidi J. Ellsworth to discuss the importance of maintaining low-slope roofs and how APOC’s newest addition to their product lineup, RoofSlope, helps address common issues like poor drainage and ponding water.
RoofSlope is a simple, user-friendly, water-based solution that contains no chemicals or solvents. It is entirely safe and poses no harmful risks for those working with the product or the environment.
Nearly every commercial building with a flat roof faces the issue of ponding water. Over time, this water collects in low areas, creating long-term problems.
Ponding water can create significant long-term damage if left unchecked. Jan explained, “Let's say you put a single ply roofing system up there...the product deteriorates, then a roofing guy's going to go out there after 12 years and all of a sudden, the product's all decomposed and they're saying, ‘Where's my warranty at?’ Well, the roofing companies and the manufacturers are not going to warranty ponding water.”
Fixing these issues often requires costly repairs, including tearing apart the roof. Without proper warranty coverage, this can mean an egregious amount of effort and money to fix the roof. RoofSlope, however, provides an easier and faster solution: a product that bonds directly to the existing roof, eliminating the need for extensive repairs.
RoofSlope installation starts with cleaning the roof and identifying the existing roof system (TPO, PVC, EPDM, etc.). Jan and his team use a specialized primer for TPO and PVC roofs to ensure proper adhesion. While the primer is wet, they broadcast sand (16 or 30 grit) to create a rough surface. Cap sheet roofs don’t require this step. Once the surface is prepared, RoofSlope is applied. It’s flexible, allowing for easy adjustments to create the desired slope, even fixing ponding issues over time without major reconstruction.
