In a new Roofing Road Trips® episode, Doug Schultz and Josh Johnson from Tremco WTI joined Karen Edwards to talk about avoiding costly roof repairs with proactive care and maintenance. Doug has worked with Tremco for almost 11 years now, starting as a technician before rising to his current position as an inspection foreman for the gulf coast region. John’s story is similar, having been a technician, then a foreman and now working as one of the gulf coast regional supervisors. Between the duo's decades of experience, they have seen firsthand the importance of proactive care for the long-term success of a roof.
Tremco’s solution for providing that necessary long-term care is the TremCare® program. This program is unique in that it cares for the roof in all parts of its lifespan. So, when it is relatively new, the focus is often on proactive and regular inspections. Doug explained, “Our main objective is to have the life of the roof last as long as possible. So through TremCare we're going to give you core construction info, perimeter details and conditions of your roof. We're also going to give you overall roof conditions and offer recommendations to keep your roof system lasting as long as possible for any problems that we see.” In addition to giving you information during these inspections, the TremCare program also offers some general housekeeping services, such as cleaning gutters and removing debris from the roof.
Caring for the next part of the roof’s lifespan is a part of the TremCare program called a “three to five.” Doug elaborated, “We're going to perform three to five different repairs for that roof for each roof section. So we're actually not just looking at the roof and taking pictures and sending overviews, we're actually performing preventative maintenance on each roof section.” In combination with these preventative repairs, TremCare also offers a leak response for the platinum and gold members.
And, when the roof is 10-15 years old and has lasted as long as it's going to, Tremco WTI can help connect building owners to the resources they need for restoration. This is a preferrable option to a complete tear off for many reasons including that it is often a little financially cheaper. Josh added, “It's also less intrusive. A lot of buildings that we work on are sensitive, like hospitals, schools — stuff where climbing around up there and tearing the roof off would be a problem. But, when we restore the roof by applying a liquid applied monolith coating, they hardly even know we’re there.”
