The power of company culture

WTI Power of Company Culture
June 14, 2024 at 6:00 a.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

At Tremco WTI, work is a family affair. Hear one couple’s story as they share how their daily experiences help them provide for their three children.

At Tremco Roofing and Weatherproofing Technologies Incorporated (WTI), company culture speaks so loudly that employees are recruiting their spouses to join the team. Bryan and Vicky Pulliam are one such couple, and they are proud to work for a company that takes pride in the materials they represent and invests in the growth of their employees. Bryan has been with Tremco for the last seven years as a sales representative for Wyoming and western South Dakota and Vicky joined about four years ago, working at WTI as the regional administrator for the medical sales and building crew in Florida.

Their workdays look very different from one another. Vicky shared, “I’m usually at my computer by 7:00 a.m. and I start by responding to emergency emails or emergency changes. Throughout the day, I’m the one that will order equipment, call off equipment, things like that. I call myself almost an operator – when my guys need something and they don’t know who to go to, I’m always their first phone call.” She wears several different hats throughout the day depending on what is needed, often taking phone calls with her one-year-old on her hip, and she loves problem solving.

When asked what her favorite part of the job was, she explained, “Probably the people I work with. The personalities I work with, my team in general has fun banter. And I feel like I’m good at what I do. There has not yet been something thrown at me that I have not been able to figure out, so I get a lot of wild cards thrown at me all the time and I am usually pretty good at figuring out the solutions to the problem quickly.”

For Bryan, every day looks a little different and he continually multitasks as his wife does. One day he drives three and a half hours to Thermopolis, Wyoming and back and the next he’s in the office with his phone glued to his ear. He further explained, “We Tremco sales reps a lot of times are out developing the work, developing the relationships with the customers and then we would bring in our contractors or WTI.”

He also loves talking to people and meeting new customers, preferring to be on site surveying as opposed to behind the computer screen all day. He shared his favorite part of the job, saying “I guess when a project goes successfully, when everything goes right – that's the best part. Because that means I did my job correctly. The contractor did their job well. We have a happy customer at the end of the day.”

While they don’t work directly on the same team together, Bryan explained how valuable it was that they are part of the same company. “We had a situation recently where I was looking at a hospital here in town and Vicky’s crew happens to specialize in working on hospitals. So, I’m able to go, hey, who’s the best person to talk to?” he offered. Accessing one another’s network of employees helps streamline the workflow and Bryan felt he can be more empathetic in frustrating situations because Vicky helps him understand the inner workings of WTI.

They often have friends, family and other coworkers ask them about the challenges of working, living and raising their children together, but Vicky shared that they have a healthy separation in their individual roles. They feel supported by their careers to raise a family and are grateful for Tremco’s flexibility that allows them to spend the time they need with their children.
