Roof Deployment Project Fosters Community One Roof at a Time

RCS Roof Deployment Project
July 30, 2023 at 3:00 a.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

Veteran-owned roofing company donates labor to provide single-mother veteran with new roof.

Karmen Allen, a U.S. Veteran, and single mother, will be moving into her new home in Colorado Springs, Colorado, this July thanks to Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity and Integrity Roofing and Painting.

This partnership was made possible through the Roof Deployment Project, which has been helping over 400 military members since it began in 2016. The Owens Corning Foundation and Habitat for Humanity made it their mission to help protect veterans, honoring this community by installing roofs one home at a time. Karmen is just one example of the help they have provided across the country. With Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program, she was granted assistance in January and is so grateful to call herself a new homeowner. Owens Corning donated the roofing materials required, and Integrity Roofing and Painting quickly rallied behind the cause, donating their labor to complete installation in a day.

Integrity Roofing and Painting is a veteran-owned company and was honored by the chance to give back to their community. During an interview with KRDO Channel 13 in Colorado Springs, Director of Commercial Roofing, Aaron Dunbar, explained that several of his employees are veterans themselves, “So it’s very special to us to be able to give back and help our great veterans after the sacrifices they’ve given our country.”

This is the fourth veteran build in the area for Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity, and the recipient, Karmen, is a U.S. Army veteran. Colorado Springs is home to the army base, Fort Carson, and her story was featured as part of the news channel’s Absolutely Colorado, showcasing stories and initiatives focused on generosity in southern Colorado. Not only does the Roof Deployment Project ensure veterans have a safe, comfortable place to live, but it continues to foster connection and community in an underserved population, by quite literally, putting a roof over their heads.
